Wayve, a British Self-Driving Firm, Raises £1 Billion from SoftBank

UK-based self-driving firm Wayve raises £1.05 billion from SoftBank to accelerate development of its Embodied AI technology for autonomous vehicles. Nvidia and Microsoft also contribute. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak celebrates the investment.

Established in 2017, Wayve's technology is being incorporated into six vehicle platforms, including the Jaguar I-PACE and Ford Mustang MachE. The AI system learns from real-world and synthetic data to handle edge cases at a faster rate than human programming.

Self-driving firms face challenges in producing vehicles capable of navigating unexpected situations. Wayve's technology aims to bridge this gap, enabling a transition to autonomous driving through over-the-air software updates.
