London-based Mission Zero Technologies raises £25.4 million in Series A funding to accelerate the development of a mass deployable direct air capture (DAC) product recovering 1,000 tonnes of atmospheric CO₂ a year, with potential for megatonne annual capacity by 2030. This funding will help address the need to remove vast volumes of CO₂ from the atmosphere while also drastically reducing new emissions, as highlighted in recent IPCC reports.

Inspired by biological processes, Mission Zero's versatile DAC technology utilizes electricity and a liquid solution to capture atmospheric CO₂ in its organic form, making it cost-effective, energy efficient, and compatible with load-variable renewable sources. The company has already moved beyond self-financed R&D pilot plants to commercially funded deployments, with plans for projects in CO₂ mineralisation, carbon-negative building materials, and sustainable aviation fuel by 2024.

CEO Dr Nicholas Chadwick expressed delight in welcoming VCs and strategic investors with strong environmental credentials, which will be catalytic in scaling DAC rapidly and responsibly for maximum climate impact. Co-founder and Partner Christian Jolck emphasized Mission Zero's ambition to deliver climate impact at scale, essential to meeting the Paris Agreement goals.

Overall, Mission Zero Technologies' rapid progress in developing a mass deployable, low cost, energy efficient DAC offers a promising solution for effective carbon removal and circular CO₂ utilization, with potential applications in fuel, chemicals, building materials, and more to combat climate change.
