London-based startup Unitary has successfully raised $15 million in a Series A funding round, furthering its efforts in the field of visual content moderation. Leveraging contextual AI , Unitary automates content moderation to identify and restrict harmful content, such as NSFW material. This investment coincides with the startup's expansion into multiple languages, a team size increase to 41, and a significant boost in video classification to 6 million daily.

Creandum from Stockholm led the Series A funding round, with participation from Paladin Group Capital and Plural. Unitary, founded in 2019 by Sasha Haco and James Thewlis, brings together the expertise of a mathematician and a computer vision specialist who met at an Entrepreneur First accelerator program.

Unitary's AI technology has the ability to understand the context of user-generated videos, differentiating between content like a white supremacist rally and documentary footage. This differentiation is achieved without the need for human intervention, contributing to a safer online environment.

Unitary's co-founder and CEO, Sasha Haco, expressed their vision of using ethical, empathetic AI to improve the online content experience and maintain pace with the ever-growing volume of internet content. This funding will enable them to continue advancing their video understanding research and fulfill their mission of enhancing the internet.
