London-based Koalaa has raised £1 million to supply soft prosthetic arms to children and adults in conflict zones. The round was led by existing investor British Design Fund and includes £200k from the Imperial College Enterprise Fund II. Koalaa's fabric prosthetics are breathable, comfortable, and affordable, addressing the challenges faced by the limb difference community.

Founded in 2020 by Imperial alumnus Nate Macabuag, Koalaa's mission is to increase access to prosthetics globally and support inclusivity. The company's unique soft prosthetics can be used by children and adults and have already made a significant impact in the UK and in war-torn regions. With ongoing product development and international partnerships, Koalaa aims to expand its reach and provide prosthetics through the NHS.

Koalaa's prosthetics feature interchangeable tools and are designed based on user feedback, enabling them to be used for various activities. The company has also developed the world's first 'early rehab' prosthetic arm, offering support just hours after surgery. Koalaa's focus on end users and their needs has been central to their success, impressing investors and the global user base.

The funding from British Design Fund and Imperial College Enterprise Fund will fuel Koalaa's global impact and scale. The company exemplifies the innovative startups emerging from Imperial College's community and is addressing an unmet need in the prosthetics industry, revolutionizing accessibility and comfort for individuals with limb differences.
